Maintaining Nonprofit Relevancy

Each day, we struggle with how best to serve our clients, our communities, and our supporters. Yet, do we really know what they need and want today, tomorrow in an ever changing, fast-paced world? Have our current methods become stale, should we be adopting new tools, what else do we need to do/can we do with our limited resources? Let’s take an honest look at what social media, social innovation and social change means to our sector.

Christopher Whitlatch directs the social media and online initiatives at The Pittsburgh Foundation. In this role, he tells the stories of how the Foundation’s donors and grantees are building a better community. Christopher also teaches social media through workshops and webinars to area nonprofits as part of the PittsburghGives initiative. In June of 2010, the Foundation launched Pittsburgh on Video, a community video hub. Christopher serves as the first video curator of the site which has grown to over 5,500 videos submitted by the Pittsburgh community. Christopher also produces Unsung, an on-line nonprofit news show that was recently recognized by the Council on Foundations with a Wilmer Shields Rich Silver Award for innovative communications.
Before joining The Pittsburgh Foundation, Christopher owned a digital marketing consulting company called UniversalWit. Christopher has a degree in journalism from New York University.
